Brief introduction about my work 2008

Collage has always been a major element within my work while recently I have begun exploring it in its original basic essence 'as works on paper'.

The works themselves are combines of magazines images, photocopies, colour copies, exhibition flyers and suchlike. They are layered, torn back, ripped and rent. Paint and mark makers are also used. The works are intricate, yet with a roughness, which nods to my interest in 'outsider or folk art'. I am also interested in the idea of de-collage such as torn billboard posters which was explored by artists such as Jaques Villegle. When starting a piece I have no pre-determined conclusion in mind of what the work will be. I may start with a particular image from a magazine, which may or may not determine a path to follow while other times this image may get totally lost or disregarded along the way.

More recently I have begun exploring the theme of musicality within my work. Visual sound if you like. Rhythm, tones, loops, colour, light and shade. I see this idea as an aid to 'open up the work' in an effort as to not rely on an image to ground the piece, ( ie. the 'From Bone to Satellite' series) more a feel or emotion.( ie. recent works like 'Let your heart be the map' (1 & 2) also the 'Harmonic Modulation' pieces )

For me the works are always as much studies in process as they are finished pieces.
